Peace Signed Between Armenia and Azerbaijan Under Trump’s Leadership on Friday, August 8, 2025, in Washington Let’s understand the stakes.

For three decades, Armenia had illegally occupied Azerbaijani territories until Azerbaijan’s decisive victory in 2023. Since then, negotiations have been underway to achieve reconciliation in the region. It’s worth recalling that Armenia faced significant isolation, which severely impacted its economy. As a result, since the beginning of 2025, Armenia has initiated and accelerated its reconciliation process with both Türkiye and Azerbaijan.

On August 8, 2025, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, signed the Joint Declaration following the meeting between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Trump said of the agreement, which will reopen key transport routes between the two countries and increase U.S. influence in the region.

Key Points of the Joint Declaration Between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia

on the Outcomes of Their Meeting in Washington D.C., United States of America:

• Peace Agreement Initialed “We emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening peace between our two countries.”

• Closure of the OSCE Minsk Process

• Launch of the TRIPP Project Opening of communications between the two countries for intra-state, bilateral, and international transportation.

• “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) A strategic connectivity project to be implemented through Armenian territory.

• Respect for Territorial Integrity Commitment to building good neighborly relations based on the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force for territorial acquisition.

During this visit, the Presidents of both countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America regarding the establishment of a Strategic Working Group to develop a Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America, aimed at elevating bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership.

According to the Memorandum, a Strategic Working Group will be established within six months to develop the Charter, focusing on areas of mutual interest. Priority will be given to:

• Regional connectivity, including energy, trade, and transit

• Economic investment, including artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure

• Defense, security, and counter-terrorism

In short, Trump succeeded in reconciling two states that had been in conflict for decades—something neither Putin, France, nor the European Union had ever managed to achieve.
