President João Lourenço Highlights Tourism as a Strategic Economic Pillar at Angola Tourism Destinations Summit

Speaking before government officials, international investors, tourism stakeholders, and diplomatic representatives, the President emphasized that tourism has become a national economic priority as Angola seeks to reduce its dependence on oil revenues and create new sources of sustainable growth.

“Tourism is no longer a peripheral consideration or a distant aspiration,” President Lourenço stated. “It has been elevated to a core national economic priority and a key strategic pillar in our ongoing structural reforms.”

The President highlighted Angola’s vast tourism potential, pointing to the country’s more than 1,600-kilometer coastline, rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and the renowned hospitality of the Angolan people. He also outlined major infrastructure projects designed to support the sector’s expansion, including the operationalization of Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and the forthcoming inauguration of the new Conference Palace in Luanda.

Addressing regional cooperation, President Lourenço stressed the importance of greater African integration in tourism development. He called for harmonized policies, improved air connectivity, and the facilitation of cross-border travel to strengthen Africa’s position as a competitive global tourism destination.

The Angolan Head of State noted that the strong growth of African tourism in 2025 demonstrates the continent’s increasing attractiveness to international travelers and investors.

Reaffirming Angola’s commitment to international partnerships, President Lourenço invited foreign investors to participate in the country’s tourism development efforts, emphasizing the government's focus on maintaining stability, security, and a favorable business environment.

The Tourism Destinations Summit brought together policymakers, business leaders, investors, and tourism professionals to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in Angola’s growing tourism sector. The event forms part of broader national efforts to position Angola as a leading destination for tourism, conferences, and international business in Africa.
