A day earlier, on August 4, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, addressed the Parliamentary Forum held on the margins of LLDC3. Chairing the first session titled “From Vienna to Awaza: Unresolved Challenges, Lessons Learned and the Way Ahead”, Speaker Gafarova emphasized the critical role of parliaments in shaping and implementing policies for landlocked developing countries, transit nations, and development partners.
Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, expressing confidence that the exchange of ideas and expertise would open new avenues for collaboration. The Speaker also stressed the need to prioritize national development, regional cooperation, international support, and partnership—key pillars for achieving the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Azerbaijan’s Strategic Role in Regional Connectivity
In her remarks, Speaker Gafarova shared Azerbaijan’s experience as a landlocked country that has successfully transformed geographic limitations into strategic advantages. She noted that Azerbaijan has invested billions of dollars in transport infrastructure, including the Baku International Sea Trade Port in Alat, new highways, and railroads.
Finally, situated on the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor and the North-South Corridor, Azerbaijan has emerged as a vital transport and logistics hub in Eurasia. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, a cornerstone of the Middle Corridor, was cited as a clear example of Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening regional ties.
