Business Diplomat: Emotional Intelligence

Most definitions of a business diplomat list tasks. Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov, a psychologist, describes a person. In this part of its interview series, Business Diplomat presents his answer to what the concept means.

First observation: three qualities
“From a psychological point of view, a ‘Business Diplomat’ is a person with a high level of empathy, emotional intelligence and communicative flexibility.”
Each quality refers to an inner capacity. Empathy is the ability to understand others. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage emotions. Communicative flexibility is the ability to adapt one’s communication to the person and situation.

Second observation: leadership and conflict
Such a person, Jabbarov says, “displaying his leadership potential, relies on the skill of resolving complex interpersonal and business conflicts constructively.” The business diplomat is therefore also a leader and a problem-solver, someone who turns conflict into agreement and not into escalation.

Third observation: trust and motivation
He adds that the business diplomat “creates an atmosphere of mutual trust in the business environment” and is “a psychologically stable professional who can correctly manage the inner motivation of partners.” Stability is key: someone who cannot manage himself cannot manage a relationship.

The logic of the assessment
The definition moves from personal qualities to action to effect: empathy, emotional intelligence and flexibility make constructive conflict resolution possible, which creates trust, which allows partners to be motivated.

The role of Business Diplomat
The platform’s mission is to give young people experience, bring a diplomatic order to the business world, and benefit states by revitalising the economy. Jabbarov’s definition suggests that part of the platform’s work is to develop character as well as knowledge. Business Diplomat can design activities that exercise empathy and self-control.

Conclusion
A business diplomat is defined by inner qualities: empathy, emotional intelligence, flexibility and stability. Business Diplomat aims to help young professionals develop them.
