Official Clarification: No Turkish Military Action Against Iran
Turkey’s Presidency of Communications’ Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) officially denied claims that Turkey would join a U.S.–Iran military conflict, emphasizing adherence to international law, respect for neighboring countries’ sovereignty, and a defensive security policy.
Türkiye will not participate in any military action against Iran, yet the need for such a statement from Turkish authorities raises questions about the context in which it was issued.
A statement from the Presidency of Communications’ Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) emphasized that recent claims circulating in certain media outlets and social media platforms, suggesting that Türkiye would take part in a military operation on Iranian territory in the event of a potential U.S.–Iran conflict, are unfounded. The statement underlined that such reports, which could create misleading perceptions among the public, are not based on any official sources and represent a clear case of disinformation.
On its social media account, the DMM noted the necessity of informing the public regarding recent media claims and stated:
"Allegations appearing in some media outlets suggesting that 'Türkiye plans to invade Iranian territory for security reasons if the U.S. attacks Iran' contain disinformation. These reports and commentaries have no official basis and are inconsistent with the foreign policy principles of the Republic of Türkiye. Türkiye’s regional policy is grounded in adherence to international law, respect for the sovereignty of neighboring countries, and the preservation of regional stability.
Our state consistently respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighboring countries and implements necessary security measures 24/7, both in crisis situations and under normal conditions. Within this framework, our security units closely monitor all risks and developments in border areas and take preventive measures against potential threats. However, these measures should not be interpreted as an aggressive policy targeting the territorial integrity of any country."*
The statement further emphasized that Türkiye’s approach to regional crises prioritizes maintaining stability over military intervention. Türkiye’s foreign policy is based on the principle of mutual respect and fostering good relations with neighboring countries, while speculative interpretations based on hypothetical crisis scenarios do not reflect the actual situation.
The DMM reaffirmed that Türkiye pursues a policy that prioritizes regional peace and security, supports diplomatic solutions, and avoids actions that could escalate tensions. Accordingly, Türkiye’s policy encourages the resolution of crises through dialogue, negotiation, and adherence to international law rather than military measures.
The statement also called on the public to exercise caution regarding unverified information circulating on social media. It highlighted that content based on inaccurate or incomplete information could generate unnecessary concern and uncertainty, and emphasized the importance of relying on credible and official sources.
Finally, the DMM reiterated that combating disinformation will continue to ensure accurate public information and stressed that speculative claims outside official statements should not be trusted. The statement clearly conveyed that Türkiye’s security policies are defensive in nature and that there is no planning directed against the sovereignty of any other country.
