Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk said that the missile that crashed in eastern part of the country in early morning of Thursday likely belongs to Russia.

During a meeting held in the city of Lublin that was organized to talk about the event Tusk said that so far everything points out to the missile that hit Polish territory being a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile. Later, while visiting the crash site, he also told that this is supported by relevant parts of the missile found there.

Prime Minister emphasized that although there are no casualties of the incident, the state takes this matter very seriously and will thoroughly investigate it. He said that the country’s defense forces were ready to shoot down the missile, it did not happen as it was predicted that it would land in an area far from built up settlements

Tusk added that he remains in contact with partners of Poland in EU as well as in NATO. He informed them of the incident while they in turn reaffirmed their commitments to security of Poland, condemning Russia for the incident, regarded as part of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Previously in the first hours of Thursday it was reported of an incident near the village of Tarnawa Kolonia in eastern Poland. Later it was found that a missile struck near the settlement, leaving a 10m-wide crater.

The missile likely appeared in Polish airspace during a massive attack on Ukraine conducted by Russia starting on Wednesday evening. According to Ukrainian Air Forces, 74 rockets and almost 300 drones were launched by Russia, targeting cities across the country. At least 8 people died, dozens more became wounded. The most tragic incident became the death of 6 members of 1 family whose house in a village near the city of Kryvyi Rih in the south of Ukraine hot hit by a Russian missile.
