Rapid Support Forces destroy several villages in Darfur, killing many

In Sudan the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have razed several villages to the ground in Darfur – a region located in the west of the country’ bordering Chad, killing many and displacing even more civilians.

According to the information from survivors as well as the United Nations, RSF have committed a series of attacks which targeted villages located in the Sudanese region of Darfur. This is not the first instance of such attacks. UN accuses RSF of targeting non-Arab ethnic groups.

UN data shows that on Friday, more than 3500 people were displaced from their homes in just 1 village, which is Wadi Fungo located in North Darfur. Currently there is no information regarding the casualties in other such settlements. People who managed to escape the violence and crossed the border with Chad reported destruction of homes and killing of those who didn’t manage to evacuate.

When RSF took the city of El-Fasher from the government forces in 2025, numerous crimes were reported. UN inquiry into the matter concluded that occupation of the city bore the hallmarks of genocide. RSF’s actions in the region target mainly the Zaghawa ethnic group. With the last position held by the government forces falling, the only opposing force left is Joint Forces – a coalition of different armed groups and militias who are allied with Sudanese army. Most of fighters and leaders of Joint Forces belong to the same Zaghawa ethnic group.

The civil war in Sudan began in April 2023. It is estimated that more than 200000 people were killed, with many more injured and displaced. War also caused a famine. One of the most vulnerable groups are the children, millions of whom suffer from hunger.
