Business Diplomat: Beyond the Handshake
Diplomatic discipline should be taught not as external rules but as the unity of psychological culture, emotional intelligence and strategic thinking, says Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov. Real diplomacy is not a handshake or a dress code. Interviewed by: Mirzajon Qalandarov, Lecturer Interviewee: Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov, Professor and Doctor of Psychological Sciences (DSc), Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies

Asked for his most critical advice to a platform that wants to instil diplomatic discipline in business, Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov points inward. In this part of its interview series, Business Diplomat presents his answer.
First observation: not a sum of rules
“Teach diplomatic discipline not only as a sum of external rules, but as an organic unity of a person’s inner psychological culture, high emotional intelligence (EQ) and strategic thinking.”
The phrase “organic unity” says that the three elements cannot be separated. Inner culture, emotional intelligence and strategic thinking form one whole.
Second observation: from form to content
“Real diplomacy is not just a handshake or a dress code, but the ability to understand the worldview of representatives of different cultures, deep empathy and the capacity to foresee situations.” The platform, he says, should not make businesspeople memorise protocols; it should form “psychological flexibility and stress resilience.”
Third observation: a tool for restraint
He recognises that “every business negotiation is, in a certain sense, a clash of interests.” Diplomatic discipline should serve as “a psychological tool that allows businesspeople to restrain their emotions (anger, anxiety) and steer dialogue into a constructive rather than destructive channel.”
Fourth observation: the definition
“In my view, business diplomacy means creating an environment of mutual socio-psychological safety and long-term trust in the business community.”
The logic of the assessment
Discipline is inner, not only external. Real diplomacy is understanding and foresight. Emotions are restrained in negotiation. And the purpose is long-term trust.
The role of Business Diplomat
The platform’s mission is to give young people experience, bring a diplomatic order to the business world, and benefit states by revitalising the economy. Jabbarov asks the platform to teach resilience and understanding and not only etiquette. Business Diplomat can build exercises around that.
Conclusion
Diplomatic discipline starts within a person. Business Diplomat aims to teach it as culture, intelligence and thought, with trust as the goal.
