Attending the TRT World Forum 2025 in Istanbul was both an inspiring and thought-provoking experience. This year’s theme, “Global Reset: From the Old Order to New Realities,” reflected the rapidly changing dynamics of our world, where power, media, and moral responsibility are being redefined. The forum’s mission—to bring unspoken issues to the forefront, promote global peace, and highlight the media’s responsibility in shaping a just world was clearly evident throughout the sessions. As someone deeply engaged in media and humanitarian issues, I found the forum’s vision remarkably relevant: it seeks not just to discuss problems but to amplify voices that often go unheard and to find new pathways for justice and understanding in an increasingly polarized world.

The opening session, graced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, set a powerful tone. He spoke passionately about the injustices in Gaza and called for a more equitable global system one that values human life over political interests. TRT Director General Mehmet Zahid Sobacı further emphasized that the current world order has failed to deliver justice, urging for a new moral and inclusive approach to international relations and media narratives. Across various panels, distinguished speakers ranging from global journalists to policymakers and scholars addressed topics such as strategic autonomy, digital transformation, post-conflict recovery in Syria, and the decline of international law in the context of Palestine. Each discussion revealed a consistent thread: that Türkiye is no longer content being a passive observer but is actively shaping the discourse of our time.

Being held in Istanbul was itself symbolic. Türkiye stands quite literally and metaphorically at the crossroads of continents and civilizations. The forum demonstrated how the country has become a bridge between East and West, Islam and the modern world, morality and technology. It reflected Türkiye’s growing influence as a nation striving to balance power with principle, and to use diplomacy, media, and culture as instruments of peace and understanding. The conversations at the forum positioned Türkiye as a central actor in the emerging global order, not just geographically but intellectually and morally.

Among the most impactful moments were the discussions surrounding Palestine. The plight of Gaza was not treated as a side issue but as a moral test for humanity. The installation “3,925 Lost Futures,” dedicated to the young lives lost in Gaza, stood as a haunting reminder of the consequences of global silence. Several speakers echoed the need to reform international law and demand accountability where it has failed. For me, as a participant, this segment of the forum was deeply emotional yet empowering it reaffirmed that media must not only report suffering but must also inspire global conscience and advocacy for justice.

Overall, the TRT World Forum 2025 was more than just a series of speeches and discussions it was a call for transformation. It succeeded in connecting leaders, thinkers, and media professionals from across the globe to rethink how we communicate, govern, and coexist. For Türkiye, the forum strengthened its role as a moral and strategic hub in a world seeking balance amid chaos. For participants like myself, it was a reminder that the struggle for justice from Gaza to anywhere else is intertwined with how stories are told and whose voices are amplified. The forum’s spirit calls on all of us, especially in the media, to be part of this global reset not by waiting for change, but by helping to create it.
