EUReflect had the pleasure of attending the Antakya Medeniyetler Korosu (Choir of Civilizations) concert in Brussels — a deeply moving evening that embodied the spirit of peace, coexistence, and cultural unity.

Founded in 2008 in the ancient city of Antakya — where Muslims, Christians, and Jews have lived side by side for centuries — the choir represents the essence of harmony across faiths and traditions. Its members come from six spiritual backgrounds — Alevi, Sunni, Orthodox, Catholic, Jewish, and Armenian — united by one universal language: music.

In his remarks, Belgian MP Şevket Temiz underlined that “music and culture are bridges of peace — Antakya’s multicultural spirit stands as a testament to unity in diversity.”

The concert was also attended by H.E. Görkem Barış Tantekin, Ambassador of Türkiye to Belgium, and many distinguished diplomats and cultural figures, highlighting the enduring bond between Türkiye and Belgium through shared values of dialogue and peace.

Born from a city that has endured both glory and tragedy — most recently the devastating 2023 earthquake — the choir’s performance was not only art, but testimony: a living reminder that diversity is not division, but strength.

Through sacred hymns, folk songs, and multilingual performances, the Antakya Choir once again proved that the melody of humanity is strongest when sung together.
