Spanish airspace closed for all US Aircraft involved in Iran war

Spain has issued a complete ban on using its airspace and military bases for the US Military Aircraft participating in the operations against Iran. Previously this affected only 2 American installations. Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares confirmed this information, adding that this decision is based on the opinion of the majority of Spaniards, who oppose the war and don’t want their country involvement as well as any escalation.

The Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo described the US action as a violation of international law in which his country won’t participate. The ban, previously only restricting access to the Rota naval base in and the Morón de la Frontera air base, now covers the entire territory of Spain. Emergency situations make an exception from this measure. This decision arrived after previous tensions between Spain and the USA after the beginning of the hostilities against Iran.

President Trump’s threat to stop all trade between his country and Spain did not help to ease the Washington-Madrid relations, as is his saying that Spain wanted to «travel for free» in regards to defense spending. Despite this, Spain maintains close ties to US in the area of Defense, reinforced by a bilateral agreements that allows American access to Spanish military installations
