Ukraine suffers devastating attack as it lacks munitions to shoot down missiles

During an overnight attack on Wednesday which took the life of at least 17 people, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged his country’s allies to provide more anti-air weaponry as no Russian ballistic missiles could be intercepted. Russia targeted the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

According to a report by Ukrainian Air Forces the attack consisted of 115 drones and 28 missiles, a part of which were ballistic ones. President Zelenskyy gave details about the damage done through a post on social media. He said that the attack mainly targeted warehouses in Kyiv and surrounding region which belong to civilian enterprises. Railway infrastructure was also attacked.

So far 17 people were confirmed dead, with 44 wounded. The highest number of casualties was recorded in Brovary – a suburb to the west of Kyiv. There, people who remained on the railway platform as their train was delayed, when a Russian missile struck, killing 8 civilians.

Zelenskyy called for the international partners of Ukraine to provide his countries with anti-ballistic missiles to prevent such tragedies to happen again and to defend the civilian infrastructure against Russian attacks.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi announced that the government will organize meetings with representatives of businesses to discuss how the state can help them and how to mitigate the aftermath of attacks.
