During a warm meeting with Roman Vasilenko, the senior authorized representative of Kazakhstan abroad, members of the Kazakh diaspora in Belgium announced their intention to create a Kazakh cultural community to promote and preserve their national heritage.

Kazakhs living in Belgium shared their determination: despite challenges related to nationalism, education or work environments, they are committed to safeguarding their roots, their language, and their traditions.

To achieve this, they aim to revive the tradition of Kazakh national instruments, notably through a dombra circle (tilik qurysy), encouraging the younger generation to reconnect with the culture of their ancestors.

Kazakh Musicians Shining in Belgium’s Finest Orchestras

In cooperation with the embassy, several Kazakh musicians — now performing in some of Belgium’s most prestigious orchestras expressed their desire to introduce the European public to the richness of Kazakh musical heritage.

A strong idea emerged:

to jointly organize a major concert that would showcase to the Belgian audience the artistic, poetic, and spiritual depth of Kazakhstan.

The gathering made one thing clear:

Kazakh talent is vibrant, inspiring, and ready to grow.

A Kazakh Language School Project in Belgium

Another major initiative discussed was the establishment of a Kazakh language school in Belgium.

The school would:

• teach the Kazakh language

• offer dombra classes

• transmit culture and traditions to children born in Europe

“I want to read in Kazakh; I want to play the dombra,” said a young participant — a powerful symbol of the community’s cultural revival.

Cultural Evenings to Share Kazakh Traditions

Members of the community also expressed their wish to organize Kazakh-themed evenings, especially at Merim Khana, to present:

• national traditions

• musical atmospheres

• cultural heritage

• Kazakh cuisine

Their purpose is not to boast or display material success, but to share, preserve, and open their cultural world to Belgian and international guests.

“If the embassy needs our support to promote the Kazakh language or organize cultural events, the doors of Merim Khana will always remain open,” the organizers said.

Conclusion

the Kazakh diaspora in Belgium is mobilizing to keep the spirit of the steppes alive in Brussels.

A culture that will no longer simply resonate , it will settle, grow, and endure.
