Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan Deepen Economic and Humanitarian Ties at Baku Summit
Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during the 8th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Collaboration, held in Baku.

The meeting was co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, who highlighted the enduring historical and cultural bonds between the two nations. “Our relationship is rooted in shared heritage and mutual respect,” he stated, emphasizing the strategic importance of ongoing joint initiatives.
Jabbarov noted that over 75 Turkmen-owned companies are currently active in Azerbaijan, spanning sectors such as industry, transport, construction, trade, and services. He also underscored the significance of collaborative efforts to enhance the East-West and Middle Corridor transport routes, with transit volumes between the two countries surpassing 2 million tons last year and exceeding 1 million tons in the first half of this year alone.
The Commission explored avenues for expanding cooperation in key areas including trade, energy, industrial development, agriculture, and the Alat Free Economic Zone. Discussions also focused on boosting mutual investment and business partnerships.
Representing Turkmenistan, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Nokerguly Atagulyev expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations. He emphasized the broad potential for mutually beneficial collaboration across multiple sectors.
The session concluded with the signing of a protocol outlining the outcomes and future directions of the Commission’s work.
