Exclusive Interview with Dmytro Gordon at the Global Media Forum in Shusha

Bringing together leading journalists, editors, policymakers, and media executives from across the globe, the Global Media Forum has established itself as one of the region's premier platforms for international dialogue on journalism, diplomacy, and global affairs. According to Gordon, the forum demonstrates the growing importance of media as a bridge between societies.

"The forum is exceptionally well organized," Gordon said. "It is an outstanding platform because it brings together an extraordinary number of leading journalists from countries around the world."

Beyond discussing the role of international media, the conversation turned to the relationship between Ukraine and Azerbaijan—a partnership Gordon believes has been strengthened by shared historical experiences and mutual understanding.

In his view, Azerbaijan's restoration of its territorial integrity has become an important example for Ukraine as it continues its own struggle to reclaim territories occupied by Russia.

"Azerbaijan has shown Ukraine that it is possible to restore territories that were once occupied," he said. "The country accomplished this brilliantly, and Ukrainians applaud Azerbaijan for that achievement."

While acknowledging that Ukraine's path remains difficult, Gordon expressed confidence that his country will ultimately achieve the same objective.

"I believe Ukraine will also succeed," he noted. "We are working every day toward the return of our temporarily occupied territories, and I am convinced that the world will one day applaud Ukraine as well."

The interview also focused on Azerbaijan's support for Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. Gordon expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance and political solidarity shown by the Azerbaijani people, describing it as deeply meaningful for millions of Ukrainians.

"On behalf of millions of Ukrainians, I would like to thank Azerbaijan for the tremendous support it has provided to Ukraine and its people," he said.

He also singled out President Ilham Aliyev, praising his understanding of Ukraine's situation and his continued support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"I am especially grateful to President Ilham Aliyev," Gordon said. "He understands very well what Ukraine is going through and continues to do a great deal to support our country. Just as Azerbaijan once restored its own occupied territories, Ukraine is determined to restore all of ours."

Concluding the interview, Gordon reaffirmed his confidence in the future of bilateral relations between Kyiv and Baku, emphasizing that cooperation between the two countries extends beyond diplomacy and reflects a shared commitment to sovereignty, resilience, and international law.

"Long live Ukraine, and long live Ukraine–Azerbaijan relations," he concluded.

As discussions at the 4th Global Media Forum highlighted the growing role of journalism in an increasingly interconnected world, Gordon's remarks served as a reminder that media platforms are not only spaces for exchanging ideas, but also for strengthening international partnerships and giving voice to shared aspirations for peace, security, and freedom.
