The Colors of Azerbaijan: Event in Brussels

BRUSSELS – The prestigious Cercle Royal Gaulois hosted a vibrant celebration of diversity and cultural heritage yesterday, April 23, with the opening of the photography exhibition, "The Colors of Azerbaijan: Land of Multiculturalism."

The event, which began with a welcome reception at 18:30, brought together diplomats, academics, and art enthusiasts to explore the rich tapestry of Azerbaijani life through the lens of acclaimed photographer Etibar Jafarov.

Voices of Dialogue and Reflection

The opening session featured several distinguished speakers who highlighted the exhibition’s central theme of peaceful coexistence.

H.E. Vaqif Sadiqov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan, delivered the opening address, providing introductory remarks on the exhibition and its significance in showcasing the country's unique model of multiculturalism.

Etibar Jafarov, the artist behind the works, shared insights into his photographic journey, offering a brief overview of his underlying approach and the diverse subjects captured in his collection.

Professor Philipp Humble from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel offered an academic perspective, sharing his reflections on multiculturalism and personal observations from his recent visit to Azerbaijan.

Michel Ivor concluded the speeches with his own personal reflections, discussing cultural diversity based on his individual experiences traveling through the country.

They highlighted Azerbaijan’s religious diversity, noting its many churches and synagogues. Furthermore, they emphasized that it was the first Muslim-majority nation to grant women the right to vote.

An Immersive Cultural Experience

Following the formal session, guests were invited to a dedicated viewing and networking reception. The exhibition serves as a visual bridge, allowing the Brussels public to interact with the traditions and everyday realities of Azerbaijan.

Through Jafarov’s evocative imagery, visitors can witness the harmony between different ethnic and religious communities that define the "Land of Fire."
