The Republic of Angola participated from 19 to 21 May 2026 in IMEX Frankfurt 2026, the world’s leading platform for the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) industry, reinforcing its international positioning strategy to attract events, investment and business tourism in Africa.

The event brought together more than 12,000 professionals from around 150 countries, including event organisers, international associations, tourism operators, investors, airlines, hotel chains, convention centres and global leaders in the business tourism industry.

The Angolan delegation was led by His Excellency the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, and included around ten national operators from the hospitality, catering, travel and tourism agencies, professional event organisers, convention centres, and transport and mobility support services sectors, demonstrating an integrated approach across Angola’s entire business tourism value chain.

Represented through the “Meet in Angola” brand and its event-attraction structure, the Angola Convention Bureau presented to the international market the country’s logistical, infrastructural and organisational capacity to host major international events, congresses, fairs, conventions and incentive travel.

Over the three-day event, the Angolan delegation held strategic meetings with international operators, event organisers, associations, investors and institutional stakeholders in the MICE industry, aiming to strengthen partnerships, promote Angola as a destination, and attract international events to the country.

The global MICE industry is currently one of the most profitable segments of global tourism, generating hundreds of billions of dollars annually and millions of direct and indirect jobs. Beyond its immediate economic impact, the sector fosters knowledge transfer, foreign investment, innovation, business networking and the international positioning of host destinations.

In this context, Angola has strengthened its strategic positioning on the African continent by becoming a Destination Partner of the International Congress and Convention Association in Africa, thereby becoming more actively integrated into the international network for the promotion and acquisition of association events.

With this status, Angola consolidates its strategic vision for the sustainable development and internationalisation of the MICE industry, while also reinforcing the country’s commitment to promoting Africa as a competitive destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

The partnership with ICCA brings significant economic and social benefits to Angola, contributing to increased tourism flows, local economic dynamisation, job creation, strengthening of the private sector, promotion of youth entrepreneurship, and enhancement of national infrastructure. At the same time, it creates opportunities for local communities to directly benefit from the growth of business tourism through hospitality, catering, transport, culture, commerce and service provision.

As part of Angola’s participation in IMEX Frankfurt 2026, a press conference was also held on 20 May at Messe Frankfurt, aimed at presenting Angola’s infrastructural and logistical conditions for hosting large-scale international events.

Chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, the press conference featured the participation of ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath, as well as national companies presenting structuring projects underway in the country to strengthen Angola’s MICE industry capacity.

Among the projects presented, special emphasis was placed on the Lundo Project, which includes the future Luanda Convention Palace, currently under construction, with a capacity of more than 3,000 participants, as well as executive rooms, an oval hall, seminar rooms, hotel units, healthcare infrastructure, a marina and other hospitality and business tourism support services.

These developing infrastructures reflect Angola’s commitment to building an integrated ecosystem for business tourism, capable of generating cross-sector economic impact in hospitality, transport, catering, services, technology and the creative economy.

During the conference, which brought together international journalists and industry operators, the role of the Angola Convention Bureau was also highlighted as a strategic structure for attracting international events, promoting coordination between tourism operators, event organisers, transport companies and service providers.

On the occasion, ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath emphasised the importance of cooperation among African destinations and welcomed Angola’s participation as a partner in the continental vision for the growth of the MICE industry in Africa.

For his part, Minister of Tourism Márcio Daniel stressed that Angola is part of a continental movement aimed at positioning Africa as a strategic destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

He also acknowledged the work of countries such as South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya and Egypt—African benchmarks in the MICE industry—stating that Angola joins this collective effort to showcase Africa’s potential and opportunities to the world.

Angola’s presence on this important global stage represents a strategic commitment to diversifying the national economy, attracting foreign investment and consolidating the country as an emerging MICE hub in Africa, capable of boosting business tourism, generating skilled employment and enhancing Angola’s integration into major international circuits of events, conferences and exhibitions.

Another reflection: GTF Angola Investment Summit

Another major reflection of Angola’s growing ambition in the business events sector is the upcoming Global Tourism Forum Angola Investment Summit, which aims to position the country as one of Africa’s top hubs for international investment dialogue and economic cooperation. Organized by Ministry of Tourism with global stakeholders, the summit is expected to bring together government leaders, international investors, multinational companies, financial institutions and development organizations to explore opportunities across tourism related sectors including infrastructure, hospitality, development, construction, aviation and logistics. The event aligns with Angola’s broader strategy to strengthen its global visibility, attract foreign direct investment and develop a competitive ecosystem for international conferences and high-level business gatherings, further reinforcing the country’s long-term vision for the growth of its MICE industry.
