Germany Expands Digital Health
Germany is advancing the digital transformation of its healthcare system with new legislation designed to improve the use of health data for patient care, research and innovation.

Germany is moving further toward a digitally connected healthcare system. In July 2026, the Federal Cabinet approved a draft Health Data and Digital Innovation Act, known as GeDIG.
The initiative is designed to make digital tools more useful for both patients and healthcare professionals.

According to Germany’s Federal Ministry of Health, better access to health data can support research, innovation and the delivery of healthcare. The government also aims to make digital healthcare applications a more natural part of everyday medical services.

Electronic patient records, digital applications and secure data infrastructure are among the elements being developed to improve information exchange across the healthcare system.
