Historic Makkah Defence Agreement Unites Pakistan, Türkiye & Saudi Arabia

The flags of Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia were prominently displayed along Constitution Avenue in Islamabad today, symbolising the historic bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and strategic cooperation among the three countries following the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

Constitution Avenue, which hosts Pakistan’s Parliament, Supreme Court, ministries and other key state institutions, was illuminated with the flags of the three countries. Banners featuring Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman were also displayed at prominent locations across the federal capital.

The special decoration of Islamabad reflects the deep-rooted ties and growing strategic partnership among Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. It represents a shared commitment to mutual trust, collective security, defence cooperation and regional stability.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed in the holy city of Makkah by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. A central provision of the agreement establishes that an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be considered an attack against all three, underscoring their commitment to collective defence and deterrence.

The agreement builds upon decades of close relations between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia and seeks to further institutionalise cooperation in the field of defence and security. It also reflects the three countries’ shared interest in promoting peace, security and stability in their respective regions and beyond.
