Business Diplomat: Psychological Safety

Knowing diplomatic rules and protocol reduces anxiety and uncertainty and creates a sense of psychological safety, says Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov. It also helps overcome stereotypes and builds trust through respect for a partner’s values. Business Diplomat: Psychological Safety

Protocol is often treated as etiquette. Prof. Dr. Hazrat Jabbarov treats it as psychology. In this part of its interview series, Business Diplomat presents his answer on the advantages of knowing diplomatic rules.

First observation: less anxiety
“A deep understanding of diplomatic rules and protocol in business reduces anxiety and uncertainty in interpersonal communication and forms a sense of psychological safety in participants.”
People who know what to expect feel secure. When both sides follow known rules, attention can go to the subject and not to the fear of making a mistake.

Second observation: across cultures
“In the process of communicating with representatives of different cultures, this knowledge serves to overcome stereotypes, strengthen social perception and accelerate psychological adaptation.” Three benefits are listed. Stereotypes weaken when one knows how another culture actually behaves. Social perception, the ability to read others, grows. And adaptation to a new setting is faster.

Third observation: closeness and trust
“During negotiations, relying on protocol norms ensures mutual psychological closeness and trust, through respect for the partner’s values.” Protocol here is an expression of respect. By following a partner’s norms, one shows that his values matter.

The logic of the assessment
Protocol reduces uncertainty. This helps in cross-cultural contact by countering stereotypes and speeding adaptation. And in negotiation, it creates trust, because it shows respect.

The role of Business Diplomat
The platform’s mission is to give young people experience, bring a diplomatic order to the business world, and benefit states by revitalising the economy. Jabbarov’s view gives a reason to teach protocol as a support for confidence and not as a burden. Business Diplomat can present it that way to young professionals.

Conclusion
Protocol knowledge gives people security, helps them across cultures and builds trust. Business Diplomat aims to teach it in that spirit.
